The second of our first-time parents checklists! With the help of some other mummies from our Facebook page as well as our focus groups we have put together a list of parenting essentials, “must-haves” to buy before your baby arrives!  We felt that there are so many products out there that claim to be essentials, (but we all know they can’t all be!) so we’ve narrowed down the true essentials!

What is Baby Wearing?

“Baby Wearing” simply describes when a parent or carer holds their baby or toddler by using either a cloth sling or structured baby carrier.

Interesting Fact! - The term ‘babywearing’ is a relatively new, but the practice of babywearing is as ancient as mankind, it has even been argued that the earliest baby carrier/sling (believed to be made from animal skins and/or plant fibres) should be considered as one of the first manmade tools! Our ancestors were quick to realise that the best way to keep their little one safe, warm/cool, and content whilst still being able to continue with their day was to wear their baby.

Over the years we seemed to have moved further away from this time-tested and traditional childrearing approach, but now baby carriers and slings are beginning to make their comeback!

Is Baby Wearing Just a Trend?

New parenting trends, styles, do’s and don’ts, seem to continuously make headlines.  The most talked about ‘trends’ in recent years have been ‘Attachment Parenting’ and ‘Kangaroo Mother Care KMC’, two celebrated parenting styles which have brought baby wearing to the forefront. More importantly, parents and carers aren’t just wearing their baby because infants are the latest ‘accessory’, there have been numerous studies into the benefits of baby wearing for both the wearer and baby, the results of which are staggering and haven’t been ignored!
